Drugs, Murder and a Four Year Old Witness

Nobody knows exactly how it happened yet, but the family members know that their loved ones were involved somehow with drugs. And somebody, for some reason, came to their house and killed all four of them, plus a neighbor who stopped by at the wrong time.

The killer may still be on the loose, but police had not determined yet whether one of the 5 dead may have been the killer.

According to the Chicago Trib, it all happened in Laurel near the end of September 2011. It all started when a driver out in a rural area was really surprised to see a young girl walking down a road all by herself. She was only 4 years old. When police investigated, they found four dead family members in the house, and another person on a nearby property.

Laurel is about 50 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

The sister of one of the victims said that she knew that they were involved with drugs and that the couple would often have arguments. A nearby florist shop owner, Debra Richarson, said, "I have a greenhouse business, and they had more traffic than I do. I'm in here working in the greenhouse and I see people pulling in all the time. You don't have that many people visit you."

Think about the nature of drugs. First of all, quite often the people who are selling them are using them also. This would mean that someone has an intense craving and that someone’s brain has been altered so that he/she isn’t always thinking correctly. Secondly, drug trafficking is a very greedy business. There is a lot of money, unfortunately, that can be made, and people get greedy about their share. Jealousy leads to anger, and anger to violence.

So even if, as a relative believes, the family didn’t do harm to one another, there might have been something that went wrong with a drug deal. It’s up to the police and the coroner and the investigation team to determine exactly what happened.

And now the little four year old girl will have to try and forget whatever she might have seen of this tragedy.
