Retirement Job -- Smuggler

Some people may look forward to retiring after a long career of work, but others find part-time employment just to get them out of the house or to make a few extra bucks. The joke is usually that they all get jobs as greeters at Walmart. It’s hardly the only location where people still keep working for a living, using their skills to benefit a company and earn them income.

Allan Ritcher must have wanted to live up to his surname, though, because he was probably scheduled to make quite a lot of money off of his delivery service. At age 71, he is still piloting a small plane, but his chosen cargo this time was over 200 pounds of hydroponic (read: the better quality, most expensive type) marijuana, which would have sold on the streets for about $300,000.

As with traffic stops, it was the anomaly effect that led to his downfall. What did he do that drew attention to himself?

Well, he started out on an unknown airstrip in the state of California first. They he was picked up on radar over Arizona and then he landed in Oklahoma. There he declared a flight plan which he did not follow. Police report that this is a common tactic for drug smugglers (so let’s hope they don’t catch on to the fact that the police have caught on.) Since this seemed suspicious, customs officials alerted the Indiana State Police to have a K-9 on hand to take a sniff of the plane. The plane landed on Friday, November 4, 2011 and the K-9 unit arrived the next morning. There was instantly a positive alert for narcotics. Police obtained a search warrant and then kept an eye on the plane and the pilot. Onboard they found the large amount of marijuana.

Police think that he was probably headed further east.

Ritcher is now in the Clark County jail unless he can come up with $100,000 cash bail. Wonder if his “employer” will spring for it or not. In any case, hopefully this has ended his career as a drug trafficker.
